Music funding in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan has one of the cleanest three-way splits in the country — and the body with "music" in its name is the one that doesn't give out grants.

SaskMusic is the membership and advocacy association. Its former investment programs were folded into Creative Saskatchewan, so today it acts as a funding navigator — pointing members at the right provincial and federal programs — and as the province's official FACTOR representative. It also runs the province-wide live music listings this site draws on.

Creative Saskatchewan: the industry money

Creative Saskatchewan is the province's economic-development agency for the creative industries, and it holds the industry-facing music money: sound recording, touring, marketing, and showcase travel. Its recording support expects the recording and mixing work to happen in Saskatchewan facilities — the money is meant to build the provincial industry, not just individual careers.

SK Arts: the arts-council lane

SK Arts (the former Saskatchewan Arts Board) funds musicians as artists rather than as businesses — creation, professional development, and research — through multi-discipline programs with a dedicated music consultant on staff.
