Music funding in New Brunswick

New Brunswick is the only Atlantic province where both funding bodies are fully bilingual — fitting for the country's only officially bilingual province.

Music·Musique NB: the MID program

Music·Musique NB is the industry association, and it delivers the provincial music-industry money: the Music Industry Development (MID) Investment Program, funded by the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture and run on a dedicated application platform separate from the main association site. MID is component-based — artist development, live performance, marketing, showcase and business travel, and sound recording each have their own rules. Some components run on fixed spring and fall deadlines; live performance and showcase travel run on rolling intake until the year's funds are exhausted, so timing matters differently per component.

artsnb: the arts board

artsnb (the New Brunswick Arts Board) covers the artistic-creation side with discipline-agnostic grants where music is one of nine listed disciplines. It distinguishes artists by years of professional experience — early-career versus established — rather than by portfolio metrics, and its career-development stream covers invitations, professional development, and promotion.

Applying

Commercial projects (a release, a tour, a campaign) go through MID at Music NB; creating new work goes through artsnb's creation grants. Francophone artists should also look at Musicaction on the federal side — New Brunswick's bilingual industry makes it one of the provinces where both FACTOR and Musicaction are natural fits.
